30MW Solar Farm Wins Approval

West Oxfordshire District Council has approved plans for a 30MW solar farm covering 46 hectares at Brize Norton.

The scheme is being brought forward by Witney Solar Farm Ltd, part of Ampyr Solar Europe, and will also include a battery energy storage system. It will occupy six fields of arable farmland lying north of Witney Road and south of the A40, and is expected to operate for 40 years.

Members of the council's development control committee debated concerns about contamination and fire risk at length during their meeting on 20 October, before voting ten to six in favour.

The project team comprises Lanpro, responsible for planning, design and safety management, Andrew Moseley Associates on transport, and BSG on ecology.
