Aico Celebrates 35 Years of Home Life Safety

Aico, which describes itself as the European market leader in home life safety, is marking 35 years since it was founded in 1990.
The company has built its reputation on alarms and sensors designed to provide comprehensive protection in the home, alongside a strong focus on education. Its CPD-accredited training courses, which have won several awards, aim to maintain quality throughout the supply chain. Its HomeLINK Connected Home Solution now connects more than 451,000 devices and 74,496 live gateway systems across the UK, supporting landlords and protecting residents. Aico has also set up the Social Housing Professionals Network and associated roadshow to help landlords network, learn and keep up with legislation.
Since launching its Corporate Social Responsibility programme in 2018, Aico has made 249 educational visits to or from schools and colleges, reaching more than 16,400 students, including over 3,259 in 2024. Staff have also contributed 7,547 volunteering hours to 247 causes.
Managing Director Neal Hooper says turnover has roughly doubled every five years and that the company's technology is expanding into new areas. He highlights long-serving staff and a senior team promoted entirely from within, and thanks customers following another record year.
Commercial and Finance Director Matt Small, who joined as a warehouse apprentice in 1999, reflects on the company's technological progress. RF interconnection, introduced in the mid-2000s, is now used in one in three installations, and multi-sensor alarms account for one in three alarms sold. He says Aico's ambitions have grown from fire and gas detection to leading home life safety more broadly.
The company says it remains committed to innovation, customer satisfaction and sustainable growth.
