Cotswolds Councillors Reject 195-Home Bloor Scheme

Cotswold District Council's planning and licensing committee has unanimously refused Bloor Homes' outline application for 195 homes on the edge of Moreton-in-Marsh. The decision was taken on 8 October, in line with the planning officer's recommendation.
The application, submitted in April, attracted 142 letters of objection, many raising concerns about extra traffic and pressure on local infrastructure.
Councillor Angus Jenkinson criticised the scheme as driven by profit rather than forming part of an integrated masterplan. He said objections from the town council, residents and NGOs reflected genuine and reasonable concern, and that the site, lying outside the town boundary, would become an isolated enclave.
Jonathan Brown, agent for Bloor Homes, said the housebuilder was disappointed and regarded the site as a highly sustainable location. He pointed out that the council itself considers it a candidate for future development if infrastructure capacity issues can be overcome, and argued the scheme would make a meaningful contribution to local housing supply, particularly affordable homes, whose persistent under-delivery he said was harming local families.
