Council Set to Agree Sale of 23 More Sites

Slough Borough Council is expected to approve the sale of 23 buildings and plots of land as part of its ongoing efforts to balance its finances. The cabinet was due to decide on the disposals on 17 March, subject to agreement by the cabinet committee on 13 March.
The sites are mainly small car parks, garage sites and unused land:
• Land at Farm Lane, next to Spital Farm on London Road, Hatfield Road, Huntercombe Spur, Woodlands Avenue, Wellesley Road, Lismore Park, the junction of Herschel Street and Church Street, Weston Road and Coftards • Car parks at Elmshott Lane, Shelley Close and Vicarage Way • Garages at Mansel Close, Spackmans Way, 1-8 Darvills Lane, Meadow Road, Langley Broom, Fosters Path, Long Readings Lane and Lodge Farm • Wexham Parish Council Parish Hall and 323 High Street
Cllr Wal Chahal, lead member for assets, says the council has reviewed its entire estate and identified assets that are surplus, cost more to run than they return, or could deliver greater community benefit under new ownership or leasehold. He points to recent sales of small shopping parades, where the council kept the freehold but granted long leases to existing tenants, helping secure local businesses and services. He adds that each sale will aim for the best financial return alongside the greatest benefit for local people.
