Major Redevelopment Planned for Army Barracks

Details of a major redevelopment of Alexander Barracks at the 50.5-hectare Pirbright Camp have emerged through a screening opinion request submitted to Guildford Borough Council.
Laing O’Rourke, working through WSP, has asked the council whether an environmental impact assessment is needed for the scheme. The proposals include 17,550 sq m of new living accommodation and 11,900 sq m of other buildings, with 2,480 sq m of the work to be carried out under Permitted Development. Around 15,000 sq m of existing buildings would be demolished.
The redevelopment is intended to allow the site to house a larger number of recruits at any one time. Plans also include four new car parks and the refurbishment of the training wing, laundry block, remedial gym, medical and dental block and the staff leadership school.
