Milton Keynes Is Top for Housing Growth

UK Property Forums22 January 2025

The Centre for Cities' Cities Outlook 2025 report ranks Milton Keynes among the leading UK cities for wages and innovation, and first for housing growth.

Workers in the city earn an average of £40,596, above the national average of £37,206, with its concentration of cutting-edge industries cited as one reason. The report finds that higher-wage cities tend to have more innovative firms in areas such as tech and AI, with the best-paid areas having over twice as many such businesses and three times as many high-tech jobs as lower-paid ones.

In Milton Keynes, one in three jobs is in technology, and the city ranks third nationally for new economy businesses, with 56.7 start-ups per 10,000 people. It is also named the fastest-growing city, with housebuilding growth of 2.4 per cent in a single year.

Council leader Cllr Pete Marland said the findings show the city's efforts to build its tech sector are producing well-paid jobs and more start-ups. He said he was proud that Milton Keynes is leading on new homes and supporting infrastructure, and that the council would use the data to help diversify the economy and ensure growth is well planned and sustainable for all residents.
