Plans revealed for 250 homes at disused fuel depot

Barwood Land is proposing up to 250 homes on a former RAF fuel depot on Bletchingdon Road, on the northern edge of Islip in Oxfordshire, according to an environmental impact assessment screening request submitted to Cherwell District Council by Pegasus on its behalf.
The 13.48-hectare site distributed fuel between 1936 and 1945 and was later taken over by Esso in the 1960s. It closed in 1991, was decommissioned around 1994 and has been unused since.
Alongside the housing, the emerging plans include possible pedestrian links such as a new footpath along Bletchingdon Road, public open space, and a green and blue infrastructure strategy featuring children's play areas, a potential community orchard and sustainable drainage. Vehicle access would be from Bletchingdon Road.
Sixteen partly buried oil tanks and other remnants of the depot would be removed, with remediation carried out where needed.
