Striking Cotswolds Home for Sale for £1.85M

A former 19th-century gasworks in the Cotswold village of Upper Slaughter, since converted into an award-winning home, is on the market through Savills at a guide price of £1.85 million.
The stone building dates from 1877, when it was built to supply carbide gas for lighting the nearby Brassey Estate. Novelist Jeanette Winterson bought it in 2011, obtained planning permission and appointed architect Chris Dyson to convert it. The original structure was restored and a CorTen steel extension added, deliberately contrasting old and new in a nod to the building's industrial origins. Winterson sold the property during the works, and the new owner saw the original design through to completion.
The home has since won The Sunday Times Home Award and been shortlisted for RIBA, WAN and Blueprint awards.
Kay McCluskey, associate at Savills, described The Gasworks as a successful blend of industrial and domestic design that is also a comfortable home, and expects its architectural pedigree to appeal to design-minded buyers or those looking for a creative retreat.
