Surrey County Council Approves Community-Based Funding

Surrey County Council has signed off the final round of its Large Community Projects Fund, run through Your Fund Surrey. Over its five years the fund has backed 74 projects with a total of £26.8 million. This last round, for which applications have now closed, will share £3.65 million between eight projects.
The successful schemes are:
• Hurst Green Community Centre, Tandridge: £1 million to redevelop it as a fully accessible hub • Coombe Common Pavilion, Waverley: £600,000 for a new pavilion and better recreation space • The Community Life Trust, Runnymede: £499,000 to restore the Kings Head building • Churt Pavilion, Waverley: £217,139 for refurbishment and an extension • Peer Productions, Woking: £499,000 for a new community hub • Woking Tigers: £135,000 towards a 3G pitch in Sheerwater • Effingham Village Recreation Trust, Guildford: £499,900 for an accessible outdoor recreation area • Arbuthnot Hall, Waverley: an additional £200,000 to turn the hall into a community hub
Cllr Mark Nuti, the council's cabinet member for customer and communities, said the final projects showed what communities can achieve with ambition and a clear vision. He said the programme had helped deliver lasting benefits for residents, from modern community hubs to improved sports and cultural facilities, over the past five years.
