Hubexo UKI Awarded Carbon-Neutral Status

Glenigan3 January 2025

Hubexo UKI, which includes construction data and software businesses Glenigan, NBS and CIS Ireland, has been independently certified as carbon neutral for its 2023 emissions across its full greenhouse gas inventory, including indirect Scope 3 emissions. Certification was awarded by UKAS-accredited assessor Centre for Assessment, and the group has pledged to maintain the status in 2024 and beyond.

In 2023 the company adopted new carbon accounting methods, in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and new rules such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, allowing it to measure all its emissions. These cover direct emissions such as its vehicle fleet (Scope 1), purchased electricity (Scope 2) and its wider supply chain, from purchased goods and services to customers' use of its products (Scope 3).

Since 2019 the business has also supported biodiversity, planting around 10,000 native trees near its offices. In 2024 it planted more than 1,000 trees in the Tyne Valley near Newcastle with Carma, a B-Corp that helps veterans with PTSD back into work through nature-based therapy.

President Joanne Keit noted that construction is a major contributor to global emissions and said the achievement shows the company's commitment to driving change in the sector, while assuring customers that using its platforms carries a neutral carbon impact. Head of Sustainability Lee Jones said this was the first certification covering a full Scope 3 inventory, and credited measures such as switching to 100% renewable energy tariffs, holding meetings digitally and moving platforms to the cloud.

NBS has measured its emissions since 2019 and has been carbon neutral since 2021, cutting comparable absolute emissions by 56% and emissions intensity per turnover by 70% against its 2019 baseline. Glenigan and CIS Ireland have reduced emissions intensity per turnover by 12%. All three brands are committed to further reductions as part of Hubexo's path to net zero.
