Retail Vacancy Rates in Farnham Rose in Q4 2024, Reflecting Market Shifts

Curchod & Co11 March 2025

Data collected by Curchod & Co shows retail vacancy in Farnham, Surrey, rose from 9.15% to 10.46% in the fourth quarter of 2024, with empty units increasing from 14 to 16, which could pose challenges for landlords in the town.

There are positive signs, however. Brands including Hotel Chocolat, Pret and Cornish Bakery are looking for space to expand, which could reverse the trend if suitable units become available.

Changes in the banking sector are also reshaping the town centre. The former NatWest building in The Borough has changed hands, and its new owners are awaiting a planning decision on a self-contained retail or restaurant unit, which Curchod & Co will market. The closure of the town's Barclays branch is likely to bring further space to the market.

Harry Ford of Curchod & Co in Farnham says that while higher vacancy is a short-term challenge, interest from well-known brands underlines the town's appeal, and new national operators could boost footfall for existing and future occupiers.
