New Devon Venue for Property Auctions

Greenslade Taylor Hunt has added Shilstone, near Ivybridge, to the venues it uses for property and land auctions. The firm, which has offices across Devon, Somerset and Dorset, already holds regular sales in Somerset, but this marks its first auction in South Devon.

GTH partner James Wotton said the firm was pleased to host its first collective auction at Shilstone, where it already helps with agricultural property management, and noted there are currently no traditional live auctions in the district.

The venue was chosen for its South Hams countryside setting. Its owners have spent two decades restoring the house and turning the site into an events venue.

The first sale will be held on Wednesday 25 February from 2pm, with bidding in the room or online via livestream.

The firm notes that auctions are no longer just for properties in need of repair and are now a common way to sell all kinds of property. Its sales regularly include farms, land, equestrian property, listed buildings, barn conversions and building plots. Auctions offer sellers a quick route to a sale with more certainty: an undisclosed reserve sets the minimum price, and contracts are exchanged as soon as the gavel falls, with completion then fixed.
